Aging people, who pose little risk to public safety, remain behind bars serving long prison sentences that are tantamount to death by incarceration. Emerging adults, 18 to 24 years old, whose critical thinking skills are not fully developed, lose their future to long prison sentences, only to one day become a part of the geriatric prison population. And unfortunately, many other people have been affected by broken parole systems, cash bail practices, over policing, and the health threat COVID-19 continues to pose behind bars. Help the Justice Policy Institute (JPI) bridge the gap between people who have been directly impacted by the justice system and policymakers so that we can redefine justice.
